Problems after upgrading to td-agent3 #62

Hi,
I'm running FluentD in a debian container in a kubernetes cluster. Recently I decided to upgrade from td-agent2 to td-agent3, after upgrading to td-agent3 and the newest version of this plugin, the mdsd agent no longer sends to Geneva. I have intercepted the socket traffic and see that events are going to the agent, and after trying to maximize log output on both the plugin and the agent I see some events are being registered in the plugin.
Is there a certain preferred mdsd agent version for a certain version of the plugin?
Has anyone encountered something similar or has ideas to debug this, I haven't seen any error logs that give any hint on whats wrong.
