Bounding box as a path

Short question: is it possible to get the path of the bounding box of a path? It seems like bounding_box only exists as a module.

Longer question (since I might be approaching this the wrong way):

I have a bunch of shapes, mostly linear_extruded rect with rounded corners or circles, but more in general a path of some sort.
I'd like these to be attachables so I made a generic make_attachable to automate it. The thing is, I'd like them to be attachable with respect to their bounding box.

Sadly, I can't seem to find a function bounding_path that turns a path into its bounding box.
Am I approaching the problem from the wrong angle?

Start with pointslist_bounds(), then make a rectangle path using the minimums and maximums.
