Is it possible/advisable to combine <dialog>'s native closedby="closerequest" behavior with Aria dialogs/modals?

I would love for my React Aria dialogs to be closed by platform specific actions, like HTML's native dialogs. Aria dialogs/modals are rendered as simple divs, so they don't inherit that behavior.

Is it possible to compose their behavior in user space? Perhaps by rendering a <dialog> inside of a modal and syncing their state by adding the proper event listeners? I'm curious if anyone has tried that.
