CONFIG_ACPI_DEBUG not set. Needed for ec_sys write_support=1

On MSI Laptops the ec_sys module with write_support is necessary to control the fan, webcam, battery charge, and shift.

In particular I have a MSI GL65 9SE and would love this to work. I can confirm with past distributions that this module is needed. I would be willing to test, but not sure how to build without documentation. I am currently on Bazzite running kernel bazzite-6.14

ie: CONFIG_ACPI_DEBUG=y in kernel-local

Is there a way to make a patch like the handheld patch? All MSI laptops to my knowledge are x86_64, perhaps a patch to that particular kernel is possible? There is no other way to write to the ec_sys without enabling write_support via CONFIG_ACPI_DEBUG.

On previous distros I was using MControlCenter. I can confirm that this does work on my laptop (except shift). I do know that the MControlCenter does not work when ec_sys write_support is disabled on bazzite.

I have not tried to install msi-ec on bazzite yet, as MControlCenter will work with or without msi-ec. This is on my to do list. Thanks for writing the driver. I did try in the past on arch. It worked mostly, but that was a while ago. A lot of work has been done since.

I have created an issue there now.

Thank you, just for clarification. I can see that bazzite-kernel has been updated. In the bazzite release I need to wait for the kernel to update to 6.14.4-104.1? Then I need to rebase from bazzite-nvidia-open:stable to bazzite-nvidia-open:testing?

Yes, the kernel takes 2 hours to build. Then add another 1-2 for a testing build.

Just wondering if something when wrong. About 20 hours has elapsed since the last testing build has completed on the testing build release page has not updated. to show kernel 6.14.4-104.1. Perhaps I am looking in the wrong place?

There was a package that broke. Bazzite testing is building now.

I have ran rpm-ostree kargs --append-if-missing="ec_sys.write_support=1" and then systemctl reboot
lsmod | grep ec_sys does not show anything.

After I install McontrolCenter*, I get the error that "ec_sys write support is not enabled".

• side note: I am still working on how to install this properly. as of now I am using
  sudo ostree admin unlock then sudo ./install.sh from the mcontrolcenter package. This install application loads until reboot at this point.

ediit: I think it is using testing-42.20250506 not sure how to tell on my end.
edit2: also the commit has not updated to kernel 6.14.4-104-1 on release page.

I have now tried all three methods from the documentation here.

I have created /etc/modprobe.d/ec_sys.conf
options ec_sys write_support=1

and /etc/dracut.conf.d/ec_sys.conf with either 1 or 2

1. install_items+=" /etc/modprobe.d/ec_sys.conf "
2. add_drivers+=" ec_sys "

then ran rpm-ostree initramfs --enable and systemctl reboot

Still lsmod | grep ec_sys shows nothing is loaded. Not sure where to look for logs. Any ideas why this is not working?

Did you sudo modprobe ec_sys write_support=1?

Yes I did try sudo modprobe ec_sys write_support=1 after each method. The results after each reboot were the same.
