[Script request]: Tor node / Bridge #4544
-
Application NameTor node / Bridge / Relay Websitehttps://community.torproject.org/relay/setup/ DescriptionTor Nodes OR Bridges are essential components of the Tor network, enabling anonymous browsing on the internet. While nodes relay traffic, bridges help bypass restrictions and provide access to Tor in regions with internet censorship. A simple integration into existing hosting or server management scripts could make it easier for users to set up their own infrastructure for a free and open internet. Due Diligence

All you have to do is to add the repository, then install tor via apt. https://support.torproject.org/apt/tor-deb-repo/ Why do we need a script for this? |

I'm pretty confused that this solution has been approved since it does NOT follow Tor's documentation and recommendations. I believe it is imperative to create straightforward and accessible solutions for those around the world who urgently need to circumvent censorship and oppressive regimes, especially in light of recent events... And I think the homelab community has what it takes to help in this regard. It would be wonderful if there could be two new scripts added:
Standalone Snowflake proxyThe standalone Snowflake proxy is crucial for users who are unable to connect directly to the Tor network, often due to censorship or restrictions. This is used to act as a proxy for a user that can't directly connect to the Tor network. To know more about it, go here: https://snowflake.torproject.org/. Proposed solution : Middle/Guard relayThis is where the current solution proposed is lacking. The Middle/Guard relay plays a key role in the Tor network by relaying traffic securely and really contributing to the network's robustness and user anonymity (the onions). The steps to configure the node has been correctly linked by @Baumart https://community.torproject.org/relay/setup/guard/debian-ubuntu/ in his initial post. Proposed solution :
I do really believe those steps would benefit of an automation script. These two are needed to enhance the user experience and streamline the process of participating in the Tor network, allowing more individuals to contribute to a free and open internet (what this community enjoys). |
