هیچ سازمانی نمی‌تواند هزینه مالی و زمانی آموزش همه مواردی که یک مهندس نرم‌افزار باید بداند را برای همه نیروهای خود تقبل کند. سازمان‌ها انتظار دارند که یک مهندس نرم‌افزار نه تنها بتواند خود هر چه را که لازم است یاد بگیرد بلکه فراتر از آن، به شدت نیاز دارند این افراد بتوانند هر آنچه که یاد گرفتند را به همکاران خویش و به خصوص مهندسین نرم‌‌افزار کم‌تجربه‌تر هم یاد دهند. از آنجا که حجم مفاهیمی که مهندسین نرم‌افزار باید بدانند بسیار زیاد است و هر روز زیاد‌تر هم می‌شود، اینکه نیروهای سازمان خود به همدیگر در جا انداختن این مفاهیم کمک کنند، هم هزینه آموزش را به شدت برای سازمان پایین می‌آورد و هم سرعت پیشرفت کار را افزایش می‌دهد و هم کیفیت کارهای انجام شده را بالا می‌برد.
