How to build SWT

Goal: Build Maintenance SWT for Mac-Silicon.
Failed at: cannot run build.xml (there is no such document) How to proceed (build .class files out of .java files)?

Did read this document: https://eclipse.dev/eclipse/swt/macgen.html

1. Install the plugin using the Update Site.
   -> I downloaded Eclipse-SDK (assuming that what "install the plugin" means...

• Downloaded Java 21 (not mentioned in the documentation)
• Edited /Applications/Eclipse.app/Contents/Eclipse/eclipse.ini and added -vm /Users/sil/Local/Weinberg/_code/jdk-21.0.10.jdk/bin (not mentioned in the documentation)
• Downloaded "SWT Tools" from "install new software" inside Eclipse (not mentioned)

4. Compile the new C code. To compile the code, right-click on the build.xml file in the tasks directory ... **-> there is no build.xml in this project, how to proceed**

Have you tried the documentation in the swt repo itself?

We don't have many Mac developers in the community (in comparison with Linux/Windows) so if you could try that and report back, it would be great. Any improvements to the documentation are very welcome too!

I have looked at it now.
My issue was that this documentation did not clearly (at least for me) state how to get things up and running in the first place (i.e. 1 download Eclipse SDK, download Java 21+, edit Eclipse in Applications to point to Java, import project, build clean etc.).

I expect that page is completely outdated and would be best removed.

Nice! Then actually doing for other platforms should be very similar, since they all end up here

Based on the Maven run configuration and the existing architectures (see screenshot below)

... I'm guessing something like:

mvn clean antrun:run@build-native-binaries -Dnative=cocoa.macosx.aarch64

I though I also updated the Agends.md file for building the Windows natives but looks like this change got lost in my fork. Once I reboot Windows, I can also add this information.

You should even be able to build binaries without Ant, just with something like mvn clean process-resources -Dnative=cocoa.macosx.aarch64 or the like (at least that's how it works on Windows).
But I am not even sure if the original post actually wants to build the binaries or just generate the bundle JARs (with already existing binaries).
