Bug in page:Download and install

The latest Emscripten has a dependency on Python3.10 due to, e.g., the match statement in, e.g., Building.py line 107 (from the top of my head). Please make this clear on this page, and how to upgrade python for older Unix/Ubuntu systems like 20.04. It has cost me quite some time to find this out.

Thanks for the report. This update was done in #25891, which explictly bumped the min version to 3.10.

I'm curious did this error not show for you? (Maybe the parse error from the match is shown before this error can show?):

I guess maybe that check is pointless if the files can't be initially parsed by python < 3.10.

I take a look at the updating the downloads page now. I think it just specified python3 right now?

That was a quick response! Thank you.

It concerns the page: https://emscripten.org/docs/getting_started/downloads.html
On this page it reads:

• Platform-specific notes - Windows - Install Python 3.8 or newer.
• macOS .... Otherwise, you will need to manually install and use Python 3.8 or newer.
• Linux: no minimum version of Python listed here.

So I was led to believe Python 3.8 was sufficient. and proceeded with installation on Ubuntu 20.04 with Python 3.8.

After installation I ran: ./emcc --check
It did not return the warning/error you refer to in your response, it returned a Syntax error when parsing the first match statement in Building.py.

It would be great if the install page specifies the minimum Python requirement for "./emsdk install latest", and describes how to verify the current Python version, and how to upgrade it.
