As far as I'm concerned I don't see the point of this document. I don't see why we should make any constraints here. If anything the whole document should be more phrased like an advise or some best practice or so.

Well, I wrote it because it annoys me if Monitoring Plugins don't behave that way. My life gets easier, if I can make some good guesses about how to handle an unknow plugin without trying multiple things until I get the hang of it.

What would you propose?
