When I start a shipment I cannot go to a different tab and come back

When I start a shipment that takes a little while to create, there is a progress icon:

When I click on the "Check" tab and then come back, the loading icon is gone and I need to create a new shipment?

Either I should not be able to leave the tab, or the shipment creation status should be preserved in the UI.

In the normal use case the shipment will be visible in the list of shipments below. In my case it is there also if I switch back to the tab. However, the loading icon will not appear again. If this is wished I can take care of this.
