Stream results for "Go To References" and other "Go To" methods

At the moment when the Go To References is triggered, it will have delay showing the popup, which impact user experience.

Would it be possible to lazy load the results for all Go To methods/functions so that popup is displayed immediatly and resulsts are streamed?

How big a delay are you talking about?
The solution you describe is the exact opposite of lazy loading. I'd rather fix performance issue than preload the world just in case someone needs Go to references

The performance issue with Go to References is with medium to large projects. For example try to open this project, https://github.com/spring-cloud/spring-cloud-stream, go to BindingsLifecycleController try to find all references for setApplicationContext, it will take few seconds to return the results.

LSP spec says it's doable (ReferenceParams extends PartialResultParams). But I'm curious to see how it looks like in a real world scenario

VS Code currently doesn't support streaming : microsoft/vscode#105870
