I've been thinking about the best way of structuring this so it can be quickly moved between modes. From turning off the pointer, to switching between different types of raycaster. With and easy to use and intuitive api. I need to flesh the following diagram out a bit more, but I hope this perks your interest.

This looks very sensible to me. I don't see any issues at the moment. Let me know if you have any updates on this.
