the root cause of this behavior is zipping parent folder with microsoft's "send to compressed folder" shortcut button. zipping with 7zip yields the base parent folder as zip archive member as originally expected |

oddly zip.namelist() was not giving back folder.
changed "contains_single_folder" algorithm slightly to handle this case anyways
