I'm actually not entirely sure about this -- I'm not sure I want configuration info about IIS that isn't installed (which I think the service check is the best indicator for).

The WMI namespaces can stick around after removing IIS as can the registry keys but the service definitely wouldn't.

Thoughts?

That is an interesting point. It does make sense that detecting the service would be the best indicator of an active use server.

I was thinking it might be useful to pull the data if it exists even if the service is no longer there, since it might be good to know what it used to hold. It might detect misconfigured servers, or servers that should be retired that have not been, or servers that have been repurposed but still have cruft around on them.
